Organizational Behavior and Its Importance to a Company What is organizational behavior and why is it important for a company to understand it? There are several crucial reasons why companies should utilize the concepts of organizational behavior, as well as understand the key terms that are associated with organizational behavior. To understand and utilize organizational behavior there are several key terms that must also be understood, for example organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficiency, organizational learning. The simple definition of organizational culture is â€Å"a set of ideas, beliefs and emotions that shape a mold of a group† (Organizational, 2000). A manager cannot come into a new office and expect employees to adjust to what they are used to. Although there is no one definition for organizational culture it is important for management to understand that it is there and it does exist. Intracorp recently had a change in the management team and rather than management adjusting to their employees; employees where forced to adjust to management. These changes lead to the loss of business for Intracorp and many unhappy employees. Diversity Regardless of where a company is located there is always some kind of diversity and management must know how to adjust to the different types within their offices. Intracorp’s new management team has done it’s best to value the diversity within the office. The previous team ignored the diversity which lead to discrimination suits filed by angry employees who’s complaints where ignored. Social psychology examines people’s influences on each other, attitudes, communication patterns, building trust, group behavior, power and conflict. Sociology focuses on the behavior of groups within an organization especially communication, power and conflict. Anthropology is the study of human beings and their activities and it helps us to understand the differences in values, attitudes and behaviors among individuals in different organizations. Ultimately, an organization’s work is performed or tasks accomplished by the behavior of individuals that make up the organization. Hence, success or failure of an organization can be attributed to the behavior of individuals within an organization. Tyco International Ltd. Tyco International Ltd. is a multi- national company which manufactures products and provide services to customers all over the world. Its products are quite diversified and range from residential and commercial security systems, fire suppression systems, electrical components, firefighter and medical diagnostic equipment, water purification systems, and building construction materials. In 2001 it reported revenues of $ 34 million. At the end of September 2002, Tyco revenues climbed to nearly $35 billion but it also had a loss of $9 during this same period, causing its stock prices to plummet. However, it was not these losses on the books that were responsible for the catastrophic failure of the company. The Business Failure With this backdrop of financial problems, the company found itself in a scandal that evolved around its Chief executive Officer Mr. Dennis Kozlowski and his senior management team. The failure of Tyco International in 2002 was primarily due to fraudulent activity. It was the discovery of an unapproved finder’s fee, the attempted removal of confidential company documents as well as unpaid sales taxes by Mr. Kozlowski that caused the Board of Directors to examine management compensation and the corporate governance structure. When investigated by the securities Exchange Commission for violation of the Securities Laws, it was found that the company had failed to disclose loan information to stock holders, had used improper disclosure and had submitted false and misleading statements. The acts of fraud included undisclosed compensation, secret loans, undisclosed related party transactions, fraudulent stocktaking, improper loans, misuse of relocation funds, and asset embezzlement by Mr. Kozlowski. Contributions to the Failure The company issued a statement after Mr. Kozlowski had resigned which stated that his fraudulent activities were done unknown to the Board. However, all the parties within the organization were responsible for the fraudulent activity. They all ignored their responsibilities to the laws of corporate governance and to their investors and employees. The Boards of Directors were not protecting Tycos shareholders interest with due diligence. In fact they were negligent in their corporate duties and responsibilities. This shows that it was a board in name only as it had not put the proper mechanisms in place for the monitoring of ethical or financial conduct. If it had, it would have uncovered the signs of fraudulent activity that were occurring over the five year period. They were therefore just as guilty as the CEO and his direct reports as they were not policing the organization. Mr. Kozlowski was once hailed as a paragon of corporate leadership but that all changed when he was accused of corporate fraud. His actions caused the scandal because he had violated his fiduciary duty because he was the agent of the shareholders and had misused their funds sustain his corporate greed. He was more interested in personal gain than in the best interest of the company and its share holders. The Chief Financial Officer and the Legal Counsel are also to be blamed for the scandal because they should have reported the illegal activities and not join in this unethical behavior. The Auditors also contributed to the scandal as they ignored the warning that were communicated through the moving of Tyco’s headquarters to Bermuda which is a tax haven, excessive bonuses, ignoring due diligence and the huge salary increases of the CEO. Explanation of Behaviors With reference to the theories on organizational behavior, Mr. Kozlowski behavior can best be explained using social psychology. Here was an individual who was hailed as a paragon of corporate leadership. He used his behavior to build trust, influence other people and groups and exert power and control. He was able to use his behaviors to influence the other persons in upper management to deceive the shareholders. He was able to communicate with the board in such a manner that built their trust. Using sociology principles, he formed a group and used communication and power to control his upper management team. Using the principles of anthropology, we can infer that the values shared by Mr. Kozlowski were the same as those in upper management who joined him in his quest to satisfy his corporate greed. Finally, only psychology can be used to explain the changes of behavior in Kozlowski that could have caused him to be become a bastion of corporate greed as opposed to being a paragon of ethical leadership. Conclusion In conclusion organizational behavior theories can be used to predict failure or success within an organization. Companies must therefore build a strong base of behaviors of personalities that are suited to goals, and the objectives of the organization and the best interest of the shareholders. Companies must choose ethical leaders whose behaviors will not negatively impact the organization otherwise; the business will fail or be put under the microscope for failing ethical and financial standards.

The idea of taking a social matter of his time, that was incredibly absurd, and made it even more absurd and gruesome. I found it easy to figure out his sense of satire in the writing, and personally dont understand how others couldnt see what he was really trying to say. How could you take someone completely seriously, especially of Swifts stature, who published a piece about eating babies? Not only is it well written and funny, but also I think it is a great insult to the people who treated the Irish so horribly. To personally see the rise Swift got out of people is amazing. To see classmates get visibly mad over the work, is incredible. It is exactly what Swift wanted to do. I find controversial work very interesting, whether it is literature, music, or television. I love seeing what can be said or done to make people raise an eyebrow. I think Swift definitely had it down to an art, on how to get a rise out of people. Finding the piece interesting and controversial, I dont know if it was a good way to get his point across to the people. Those who found his ideas grotesque and idiotic, thought just that. They didnt see what he was really trying to say, or prove. The thought of eating babies almost seems to overwhelming to some, that they cant tap in to the real meaning of A Modest Proposal. Jonathon Swift definitely got everyones attention, whether good or bad, and I think that is what he wanted to do. I personally found A Modest Proposal intriguing and hilarious. The way swift got some people so steamed is also humorous to me. The Helper-T cell identifies the virus as harmful and calls an army of B-cells and Killer-T cells. The B-cells create antibodies, which attach to the antigen. The Killer-T cells then eat the antigen/antibody complex. With the vaccine the body builds immunity to the virus. If it were the actual virus the person could survive, but theyd probably die of heart, liver, or kidney failure. The liver damage causes extra yellow bile in skin pigment, causing the person to turn yellowish; hence the name Yellow Fever. The virus also causes hemorrhaging. The theory of Double Jeopardy is described as a behavioural phenomenon which relates to the size structure of a market (Bandyopadhyay, Gupta & Dube 2005). This indicates that in any given time a smaller brand typically has fewer buyers compared to those of a larger brand as larger brands often have a higher percentage of penetration and market share (Ehrenberg, Goodhardt & Barwise 1990). A brand with more market share indicates that consumers purchase these brands more frequently compared to other brands. There are a number of reasons why this occurs. For example firms offering products that a consumer perceives as better quality and value, will grow larger (Jacobson 1988). Also, a firm that creates power advantages by introducing inferior products which competitors cannot offer to customer’s also results in a higher market share. Careful analyses of all team members’ individual purchases over the tracking period, it can be noted that a large number of different brands were consumed. By viewing the Duplication of Purchases Table for fast food, out of all the 11 types of brands, McDonalds and Max Brennars were the most frequently purchased brands resulting in a higher percentage of penetration and market share compared to other brands. The first market level consists of the differences in consumer exposure to the market mix efforts (price, promotion, advertising, point of purchase display, discount) of a brand. If a brand has less consumer exposure, it is more likely to suffer (Ehrenberg et al. 990) because they have fewer buyers and lower repeat purchase. Looking at the DOP tables for fast food, TGI Friday’s and Koko Black displayed as the least frequently purchased brands. A reason why these two fast food outlets were the least purchased brands is because of their location as many customers may not have close access to it. Another reason is because there is not much advertising and promotion when compared to fast food outlets such as McDonalds and Max B rennars. The second market level relies on stochastic models of buying behaviour (Ehrenberg et al. 1990) which helps predict the Double Jeopardy trends for competitive brands. This is solely based on the heterogeneity in popularity such as the market share as earlier research shows that the average customer of smaller brands buys less, have lower favourable attitude and manifest lower loyalty than the average customer of larger brands (Ehrenberg et al. 1990).

The first thing Romeo tells Juliet that he wants to kiss her. He gets into fights with people over her.Romeo marries Juliet in secret, and even eventually kills himself because he thinks that she is dead. Even when Romeo is banished for killing Tybalt, he cannot bring himself to leave Juliet, and even sneaks with determination back to Verona to facilitate their getaway. Romeo is determined to have Juliet, but at the beginning of the story, Romeo is very depressed. Montague quotes, â€Å"Away from light steals home my heavy son and private in his chamber pens himself, shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out, and makes himself an artificial night†(I. i. 138-141).Montague is talking about how Romeo looks so sad that it seems as if he does not want to come home. Romeo would rather be locked up in a room with shut windows blocking daylight in or out. Romeo was sad beca use he loved a girl named Rosaline. However, Rosaline didn’t love him back. In addition to his tremendous sacrifices,   he   is also undaunted about marrying into a rival family. In fact, he tells Juliet that he would rather die than have her not love him–that is daring! His fearless attitude is demonstrated when he says, â€Å"And but thou love me, let them find me here. My life were better ended by their hate, Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love† (II. ii. 85-87). By marrying her, he is being very br ave and daring, too. He knows how much trouble the marriage could bring, especially since they have to marry in secret.There are many physical descriptions of Romeo as a handsome, young man. Take a Step Back ​Chances are, your professor doesnt actually  hate you.  Now, there may be some disagreement your professor may not like your attitude, may think you arent trying, may think youre being disruptive in class, or may simply think your opinions and beliefs are ill-informed but actually  hating  you is pretty serious. (Side note: If you do think there is something personal going on, like sexual harassment, definitely talk to your dean of students, academic dean, or any other ally on campus as soon as possible.) Its much more likely that theres some kind of miscommunication or personality clash going on. Try to reflect back on when things started to become tense between you and your professor. Everyone wants a child that does well in school. Teaching your child to have the right mind-set for success is crucial to helping your child succeed. The two mind-sets (according to Carol Dweck who wrote an article on â€Å"The Secret To Raising Smart Kids†) can change the way your child learns. These two mind-sets can be applied to any student which would be carried out to the child’s athletics and working career.To have a fixed mind-set, Carol says that students who believe that they only have a certain amount of intelligence and that’s it. They want to look smart without being smart. Dweck insists that, â€Å"They had a negative view of effort, believing that having to work hard at something was a sign of low ability. They thought that a person with talent or intelligence did not need to work hard to do well.†This thought can prevent bosses from getting along with workers. Scientists have discovered that managers tend not to take advice from their emplo yees with a growth mind-set because they already feel as if they are smarter than the employees and know better than them, causing the workplace to decline. Athletes who think they know better become unteachable later on. They, â€Å"value talent more than hard work† causing them to not get any further than what they are praised for.The kids with a growth mind-set are taught that intelligence can be developed through education and hard work. The witches tell Macbeth that he will become Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland.The witch’s prophecies make Macbeth ambitious and tap into pre-existing ambition. Macbeth believes these prophecies as the first of his prophecies has been fulfilled. Afterwards the second prophecy is carried out. Immediately Macbeth thinks of murdering King Duncan so the third of his prophecies will be fulfilled even though he is horrified by the idea. Lady Macbethâ€⠄¢s greed makes her determined the third prophecy will come true. But believes Macbeth is not capable of murdering Duncan but will provoke him. When Lady Macbeth hears the news that that Duncan is coming to visit she believes it is the ideal opportunity to kill Duncan.Lady Macbeth calls on the spirits of darkness and evil to replace her nurturing and feminine qualities with remorseless cruelty.
